Pulp Fiction: Sex, violence, coarse language… Love it!

I find myself alone in the house - a very rare occurence - thanks to my husband.  He took the kids out for a walk, leaving me to get on with hanging the laundry in peace.

The first thing I did was turn off Treehouse TV.  It was pure bliss to hit the button and have it followed by silence.  Then I hung the laundry out on the washing line, with the weather slightly improved from yesterday.  Coming back into the living room, I wondered what to do with this precious alone time.  And then it struck me…

Adult viewing.  And by that, I do not mean porn!  I mean that I was going to watch a movie on DVD meant for grown-ups like me.  Sex, violence, coarse language!  All of it!  There was only one answer:  Pulp Fiction.

Wow, what a great movie.  The soundtrack is awesome, as with every Tarantino movie.  The guy has an uncanny knack of finding all these classic tunes that fit so well into the scenes.  The cast list is unbelieveable.  I can only imagine that Tarantino has a lot of friends in Hollywood.  Either that, or he’s got endless money!

Having the movie on prompted me to write this post and sing it’s praises.  I must admit though that I’m watching the movie more than I’m typing, so I might as well give up one or the other, right?

Bye.  :)

Barbie, Barbie, and more Barbie!

My two-year old daughter loves Barbie DVDs.  She has others to choose from (Dora, Max & Ruby, Little Einsteins, etc) but ultimately opts for Barbie every time.  A real girly-girl, my daughter.

The Diamond CastleWe started our Barbie DVD collection with The Magic of Pegasus and The Island Princess, and then added Mermaidia and Fairytopia.  Our fifth and most recent addition is The Diamond Castle.  This DVD, my friend, is by far the worst of the lot.  It features two friends, Liana and Alexa, and they love, love, love to sing the most annoying songs in the world.  High-pitched and screeching, they trawl through song after song, repeating a select few over and over again.  Just to frustrate me, I’m sure.

Sweetheart, I say soothingly to my little girl, wouldn’t you like to watch a different DVD now?  You’ve seen that one at least 6 or 7 times today alone!

No, she says.

This one is the newest one and must be watched until the DVD wears itself thin.  Just my luck, that doesn’t happen with DVDs, does it.

For all you parents out there with little Barbie-loving daughters, steer clear of The Diamond Castle… or get yourself some quality ear plugs.

Maroon 5 - Better than ever

As usual, I’m a little late to catch on to things.  Particularly when it comes to music, I am rarely the one who discovers some up-and-coming new band and then turns all my friends on to them.  No, I’m usually the one who hears about the fabulous new music from someone else.  Ah well, sometimes we just need to admit our shortcomings.

So, the band that I’m a little late in discovering is Maroon 5.  I first heard of them when we were still living in the UK.  My stepdaughter went on holiday to the States with her Mum and came back raving about this amazing new band.  She’d bought the CD and played it for us.  I had to admit even back then that the songs were strong and I just loved the guy’s voice.

But I didn’t become a fan.  I didn’t buy the CD and and I didn’t seek them out.

A little while later, we started hearing Maroon 5 on the radio and, like everyone else, I sang along to their single, This Love.

But now, in 2007, Maroon 5 have come out with a new album called It Won’t be Soon Before Long and they have released two singles from it (that I’m aware of).  The first was Makes Me Wonder.  Great song, great video.  And more recently, they’ve released Wake Up Call.  Wow!  Love it!!  That guy’s voice gets right into my head and I swear that I can even hear it when I don’t have the song playing.  I sing it in the shower and hum it as quietly as I can while I’m at work.

                      Wake up call,
Caught you in the morning with another one in bed,
Don’t you care about me anymore,
                      I don’t think so,
                      Six foot tall,
                      Came without a warning,
So I had to shoot him dead,
He won’t come around here anymore,
                      I don’t feel so bad

The lyrics are catchy, the video is super-cool, and that singer guy with the awesome voice just happens to be a looker too.

So, as usual, I’m a slow learner, but I get there in the end.

What’s that in his hand?

I was just looking back through my blog entries here at Woothie.com and my eyes settled on the very agreeable picture of Robbie Williams in my post titled “What’s Robbie Williams up to?“.  I hadn’t noticed before that his right hand is, well, holding or at least touching, ummm, himself.

Robbie!  You naughty, naughty boy.

What’s Robbie Williams up to?

I’m a married woman.  A happily married woman, in fact!  I love my husband and, obviously, I find him attractive.  My question to you is: can (or should) a happily married woman still find another man attractive?  And really, should this offend or upset her beloved husband?  The answer, I’m sure, is not straightforward and will differ from couple to couple.

For example, if I find some attractive, like a movie star or something, I expect Hubby to nod and just let me get on with my lusting.  But if he casually mentions that some starlet is sexy (usually because I asked him), I feel myself cringe and instantly feel like he’s done something wrong.  Now clearly this is completely unfair.  I do realize that and blame it entirely on a lack of confidence.  The obvious answer would be to never ask him about it again.  Duh.

Robbie WilliamsAnyway, this post came about because I recently heard a Robbie Williams song on the radio while I was at work.  I think it Rock DJ.  I sang along and remembered fondly the time I saw him in concert at a club in Montreal.  He was phenomenal.  Absolutely amazing!  And so, so sexy.

I had a pic of Robbie on my desktop and thought he was just dreamy.  Thinking back to how he looked then, I can still remember how I thought he was the sexiest man alive.

Then I met hubby, of course, and he took Robbie’s place on my desktop.  But I still think about Robbie from time to time, when one of his song plays on the radio.  I’ll have to find out what he’s up to now.  We don’t live in England anymore and, although he was once popular over here in Canada, I haven’t heard of him recently.

I just checked out his website and there’s a “Meet Robbie” contest going on.  Hmmm…  :)

Feist

I bought the new Feist CD a little while ago and It’s amazing.  She has such a wonderful, soft voice and the songs are all catchy.  My favorite from her is definitely My Moon, My Man
